Alan Blakely was recently awarded the Paul Shurtleff Hatch and Heidi Hatch Ford Scholar Award for Type 1 Diabetes Research.
He is a doctoral student in Chris Hill's lab. He is being recognized as an exceptional junior scientist conducting research in the area of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and its complications. His work in structural biology and drug discovery aims to improve insulin therapeutics to make T1D a thing of the past. He aims to improve the speed and stability of insulin by studying insulin variants found in cone snail venoms.
